My top tips...

Stretch

When I first started practising Yoga I found a lot of the postures quite difficult due to my lack of flexibility so in my desire to get deeper with my asana practise I set up a stretching routine that I did at least 4 times per week along side my Yoga practice.

A few little stretching tips of mine..

Listen to your body, if something doesn't feel right or you feel like you are about to hurt yourself, stop. Take it easy, it is not worth injuring yourself.

Be consistent! Set up a weekly routine & stick to it. You can look back in 6 months time and wish you had started and stuck to it or you can look back and be proud and happy you did it and amazed at your progress.

The more you stretch, the more flexible you will become. You want to hold your stretches for at least 30 seconds.

Breathe (Pranayama)

Breathing is one of the biggest parts of practising Yoga and applying pranayama while stretching is extremely beneficial. It helps your body & mind relax allowing you to get deeper into each stretch.

When you first start stretching it can feel pretty uncomfortable so taking long deep breaths and staying focused on each breath can help you feel more relaxed and make it easier to stay in each stretch for longer.

Yoga

And of course practise Yoga...If you're not already.

I recommend practising at least 4 times a week. Of course everyone is different and we all live different lives so it is important to find what suits you. Some may practise less and others may practise more, either way is ok. Remember you are doing this for you.

The Benefits of Practising Yoga

The benefits of practising Yoga...

Yoga is an ancient practice that dates back more than 5000 years.

When thinking of yoga the first thing that usually comes to mind is Asanas (Yoga postures) but Yoga is not just about practising different postures; yes this is a big part of it but there is so much more to it.

Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning Union. You might be thinking union of what?

Union of mind body and soul. The biggest benefit of practising Yoga is what it does for the mind. A confused & erratic mind only causes problems for our body and soul. If we have no peace or balance in our mind then we will have no peace or balance in life. If we can achieve a clear balanced mind this will flow through and we will then feel the same in our body and soul creating a more peaceful balanced life.

Once we have achieved this we will feel connected with everything around us; a realization that we are one with everything. This realization leads us to live more peacefully & compassionately.

Below I have listed just some of the many benefits of a regular Yoga practice.

  • Increased flexibility in both body & mind.

  • Increased balance physically, emotionally and energetically.

  • Increased strength both body & mind.

  • Increased blood flow/ better circulation.

  • Yoga improves strength & alignment around the spine therefor correcting your posture and returning your body back to its natural symmetry.

  • Helps relieve stress & anxiety.

  • Improves quality of sleep.

  • Helps develop self-discipline & self awareness.

  • Improved overall health & productivity.

How amazing is Yoga.. right?

Cruelty Free Living

Switching to a cruelty free life...

Just over 6 years ago, my lifestyle changed in a big way. I made the decision to start living in a way that was not only good for my body, mind, and soul but also good for the animals, and the planet. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I no longer eat meat, dairy or any other animal products, I don’t purchase any items that have been tested on animals, and I don't purchase or wear anything that is made from any animal products such as leather and wool.

Since changing my lifestyle I am the healthiest and happiest I have ever been, I feel happier and more at peace with myself, I rarely get sick and I have loads more energy.

Some of the benefits of switching to a plant based lifestyle include

  • Helps with weight loss & weight management

  • Removes toxins from the body

  • Improves kidney function

  • Lowers the risk of heart disease

  • Lowers the risk of cancer

  • Protects against chronic disease

  • Lowers cholesterol

  • Increased energy

  • Reduces bad breath & body odor

  • Increased life span

  • Healthier hair, skin and nails

  • Reduces allergies

  • Improves digestion

Living a natural cruelty free lifestyle goes a little bit further than just the food that we eat. If you look around your house you may see unnatural chemical filled products everywhere, ranging from cleaning products to cosmetics that may either contain animal products or have been tested on animals and contain nasty chemicals, switching to a cruelty-free lifestyle also includes not purchasing or wearing any animal products.

Making the switch may seem a little overwhelming to begin with but I assure you it is much easier than it sounds and well worth it.

You can find natural vegan friendly cosmetics and cleaning products online and at your natural grocer & health store. There are a few websites that are great for finding natural cruelty free products and tips such as Peta, The Cruelty Free Shop, and Vegan.com.

My personal favorite natural vegan friendly makeup range is Inika Organic and Ere Perez. I have tried many different brands over the years and these are by far my favorite.

As for facemasks, lotions, body oils, and soaps I absolutely love Wild Healing, and I recently discovered another amazing Vegan brand called Salt by Hendrix who are also amazing! As for shampoo and conditioner I use Acure which i'm loving, it’s hands down the best that I have tried.

Keep in mind everyone is different so different products will work differently for each person so do your research and know that you may have to try a few different brands before you find one that works well for you.

As for cleaning products there are tons available that are good at your local health stores, good brands that I have come across are Earth Choice and Organic Clean. However cleaning with bi carb soda, eucalyptus oil and tee tree oil works as well.

As for eating out, don't worry there are plenty of vegan restaurants around now and most restaurants if they are not vegan will have a vegan option on their menu and if they don't they are usually willing to help and make something up for you if you ask nicely.

As for all you chocolate lovers...Yes there is Vegan chocolate! There are a lot of Vegan friendly chocolate brands out there but my personal favorites are VegoPana ChocolateBSKT, and Loving Earth.

An awesome app for tracking down vegan restaurants and cafes in your area and around the world is Happy Cow.

If you are worried about getting all the nutrition you need making the switch, please contact me and I’d be more than happy to help you with the nutrition program and products that i use.

If you are interested in learning a little more about why so many are switching to a vegna lifestyle, I have listed some documentaries below. Keep in mind these may be a little graphic but they are very informative.
